Confirmed today: the winner of the 2010 Red Bull Illume Image Quest will receive a Leica S2 camera and equipment to the value of €30,000.
The winning photographer's image must make it through a number of stages before being chosen as overall winner.
Once the submission phase is closed on February 28, 2010, the best 250 images will be put to a panel of judges made up of internationally renowned photo editors and experts. The panel will then choose 50 finalists, with five images in each of the 10 categories. Ten category winners will then be voted for, and finally the overall winner.
The 50 finalists will be announced in May 2010.
Leica, one of the world's most famous photography brands, will present a Leica S2 camera and lenses to the value of €30,000 to the overall winner.
The S2 has a high-resolution image sensor and a unique 'S' format which puts the camera in a standard of its own. It has a full range of features such as autofocus, high-speed Maestro image processor, highly rugged design and an optimal size for ease-of-use for professional photography.
The S range of cameras is the only professional system which makes a clean break with traditional categories such as '35mm' or 'medium format' and was developed solely for the digital domain.
The entire system is based on a totally new image sensor in Leica S-Format, 30x45 mm in size and with the classic 3:2 Leica aspect ratio. The large area, 37.5MP and integrated design give optimal picture quality.
