Derek Frankowski

Taking photos has been a passion of mine since my high school days. I was born and raised in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan and now base myself in Rossland, a small ski town in British Columbia's snow- and trail-blessed southern interior. Following a photojournalism diploma from S.A.I.T. in Calgary, Alberta, I've been shooting professionally for seven years. Currently I'm a senior photographer for Bike Magazine, spending most of the year traveling on assignment with some of the most talented riders in the mountain bike industry. Although my work is often seen in Bike, I also contribute to publications such as Outside and National Geographic Adventure.

I put a lot of effort into capturing mood, rather than let the technical side of shooting take center stage. My corporate clients include companies such as Fox and Oakley. In the past few years the graphic design side of my business has grown and allowed me to continue to work creatively with clients. And in 2007, I will be trying my hand at filmmaking as a co-creator of a 16mm mountain bike film called Life Cycles, taking my vision to a motion medium.
