Ricky Adam
Around 1997, I was introduced to photography. It was something I could actually do and get results. I quickly digested the technical aspects of shooting, developing, and editing black-and-white photography, and soon found myself documenting images of BMX riding, the punk scene, and the many unique people I encountered along the road through life. A few years later, I began to shoot photos for Dig BMX Magazine, an international BMX magazine edited, assembled, and brought to life from an attic-sized bedroom in the Holyland region of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Dig combines a passion for stylistic BMX riding alongside the DIY punk ethic with which I have long been akin. I am still employed by Dig BMX Magazine as a staff photographer/editor/janitor, and I'm lucky enough to travel the world documenting the many unique aspects of BMX.
My first book, Urbanite, will be released by Myopic Eye Press in mid-2007. The book is a result of a long-term project with photographs taken in various locations around the globe documenting people moving through cities. In my spare time, I enjoy BMX, the “PUnk ROck,” steaming organic vegetables,
and taking long, hot baths.... I wish I had picked up a camera sooner.
