Eva Gamperl-Wolf
PHOTO EDITOR, SPORT MAGAZIN
Born and raised in the countryside of Styria, sport and nature were always very important to me. My two older brothers and my parents gave me the opportunity to create my own experiences in sports. Our entire family was huddled around the television when Ali was boxing at 3 in the morning in Austria or anytime Franz Klammer was skiing.
Sport was always part of our lives! After school, I started to study sports with the goal of becoming a teacher. At this time, I had my first experiences with photography. My mother is very good in photography. She is not a professional but she knows what makes a good image.
In 1997, I started to work as a picture-editor for Sportmagazin. It was my destiny. This job was waiting for me. I had to learn a lot and it was not always easy; long discussions with chief-editors and art-directors. To search for the best images all over the world is a job I enjoy very much. It is interesting to see how different one and the same event can be featured. Sportmagazin offers a wide range to all photographers- from hardcore action to high quality studio productions (with David LaChapelle, Helmut Newton etc.). This allows me to be competent in art and in action photography. This range makes my day very exciting. I really like my job and like to learn new things day by day. Good photography should illuminate the mind of the spectator. My selection for Sportmagazin should help to illuminate the day of our readers and make the world a better place!
