My name is Jan Pelikán and I am 22-year-old photographer from the Czech Republic. My first experience with photography was rather elementary – I was taking photos on a family vacation. Since 2009, at that time I was 15 years old, I have started noticing that my interest for photography was growing so I bought my first DSLR camera.
Since my childhood I have been really interested in skateboarding however, I wasn’t really good at it, so skate photography was a possibility to connect what I like with what I am getting good at. This passion is still present - skate photography gives me the power that I am able to capture unique moments.
Although skate photos are my passion, I quickly found out that taking skate-themed photos can't fill up my bank account. For this reason, I have moved my interest a little bit to the commercial sphere. I try to photograph lifestyle and commercial photos for young and fresh fashion brands and cooperate with young, urban-street culture artists. A really huge step in my career arrived in 2013, when I moved to Prague, because it was totally new world for me. After I finish college, I would like to work for big sports companies on their commercials etc.
I mostly take photos with my Canon 6D in combination with Canon 70-200 mm f/2.8. At the beginning of this year I established a partnership with Canon and Fomei. This helps me to thrive a lot, ensuring I always have access to the right technology.
