Here & Now with Jeremy Koreski Here & Now with Jeremy Koreski 07/11/2012 created by Red Bull Illume Red Bull Illume catches up with 2010 Image Quest finalist Jeremy Koreski about his latest surf film project, Here & Now. What is Here & Now about? Here & Now was the idea of Nathan Myers and Taylor Steele to have 20+ surfers from around the world go out on the same day and film what their day was like in each particular region. We then cut all of the footage to make a diverse "day in the life of surfing around the world" film. How did you become involved? I've worked with Peter Devries a lot in recent years, so when Nathan emailed and asked if I wanted to team up with Pete and be a part of this film, I was stoked! What was your role? My role in the project was basically to follow Pete around for a day and capture what he does on a regular basis. Once we had the footage, we shipped it off to Australia where Taylor, Nathan and the crew cut it. How was the premier? Peter and I were at the premier in Tofino and it was really fun. The restaurant bar we premiered at was packed with a good vibe throughout the film. So far, so good – the film has been getting great reviews! How did you get into surf photography?I got into surf photography growing up in Tofino, Vancouver Island and spending time at the beach and in the water with the Bruhwiler Family. Their house was right on Chesterman's Beach and was my second home for a lot of years. When I picked up a camera and started taking pics and shooting video, Raph and Sepp Bruhwiler were the guys I was shooting the most. Do you have any other upcoming projects? Last Fall I was involved in a project with Patagonia and Raincoast Conservation on a trip to the Great Bear Rainforest in northern British Columbia, to bring awareness to a proposed oil pipeline that is being planned. The pipeline would end up at the ocean where tankers would freight oil to Asia and the USA. Along with still photos a film is being directed and produced by Chris Malloy called Ground Swell. That will be released this Fall, so I am excited to see that. Have you planned your submissions for the 2013 Red Bull Illume? I have a few images I will be submitting for the 2013 Illume, but I am hoping that between now and December I can produce some new work to submit!
