The organizers of a skateboard documentary film festival in Prague asked me to create a poster for this event. I wanted to create something not so usual for me and my friend came up with the idea of skateboarder in a suit doing a trick. And because it was a film festival we added a red carpet. Then I had to decide what kind of trick the skater should do. Board slide on a rail was the best choice because it’s dynamic and quite easy to shoot.
After the first idea it was necessary to think about production. When I create a concept I prefer to shoot everything on the spot rather than creating everything in Photoshop. So I decided to shoot this photo in the skatepark because there was a perfect rail with stairs, and production was much easier in a skatepark than on the real street.
For the final photo I used more than 30 meters of red carped and a lot of black fabric. The best angle for the final composition was from the top, so during the photoshoot I was in an aerial platform. The set was ready in two hours and the final photoshoot took 15 minutes.
The camera I used for this shoot was a Nikon D800E with Nikkor 24-70/2.8. The strobes were from Fomei.
