Camille’s dream was to link his “home mountain” the three iconic peaks of “Les Aiguilles d’Arve” in Savoie, France, with highlines. The two highest peaks summit at 3500 meters high surrounded by two valleys 2000 meters below! To get up there, the easiest way is to hike up 2000 meters with some alpine at the end. Camille found 30 people, mostly highliners, highly motivated to make his dream true. And like a real Himalaya expedition, we made a real base camp on the snow right at the bottom of the Aiguilles. All the gear and food was carried by us on our too-heavy backpack during June. In July, after 20 days of preparing the anchor, rigging the first two 90 m lines, shoveling a lot the snow around the tent while the snow melts day after day, passing through snow and lightning storms, we finally got a weather window full of sunshine without wind! The day before this shot, we all installed the two big lines, 480 m and 560 m long and Camille could make the first full traverse after an exhausted long day. Finally the day of that shot, 20 highliners went on every line they wanted with a perfect blue sky from sunrise to sunset. Here is Yvan enjoying the first light on the 560 m line called “Le Château dans le Ciel”.
The wait is over and we can finally share the first new images of this year's Red Bull Illume Image Quest! Every week, we announce the semi-finalists of a different category, so stay tuned for more mind-blowing images.
