It was raining the day I scheduled the shooting with Luca. So, we decided to use bridges and train stations as photo locations to avoid getting wet. I had this spot in mind that had already been at the top of my list for some time. Fortunately, it went down that day.
We shot in this specific underground station in Cologne that has a bit of an odd twist to it. It’s fairly new, but the construction of the tunnels connecting the station to the main lines is still undergoing. Therefore it only sees a train about every 20 minutes and hardly any people. This makes it an ideal architectural backdrop to be skated.
When I compose my pictures, I am aiming to achieve technical perfection, from the perspective of an architectural photographer. You can see that looking at the horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines of the image. I want to create a supernatural look that makes the viewer question, whether or not the place is real. Luca’s kick flip just factors in on this dynamic of realism. I am super happy with how the final result turned out.
