Architectural photography has always fascinated me very much and I'm a huge fan of symmetry and also of the beauty of minimalistic structures.
In this case, I found a parking garage where all park decks are connected by an up-going spiral with a bridge crossing halve-ways.
This location just seemed perfect as a shooting location and I told my friend Senad Grosic about it and he was full on when I sent him some previews from the location and we decided to give it a try. I built up one strobe with a snoot to get a silhouette of Senad's trick on the bridge, but just before we got started a small rain-shower came in and made the bridge wet and the concrete very dark so the silhouette was almost not visible. We decided to wait till the concrete has dried again and used some towels to speed up the process, so we could get the shot we had both in mind. Thirty minutes later the stage was set and we were able to shoot.
A couple of tries later we had the perfect shot of Senad's bunnyhop tailwhip and we were both super happy with the final image. I still have a smile on my face when I remember Senad's face expression, when I told him that we need to dry the surface to make this shot work.
The wait is over and we can finally share the first new images of this year's Red Bull Illume Image Quest! Every week, we announce the semi-finalists of a different category, so stay tuned for more mind-blowing images.
