It was late May 2021 and Raj and I weren't quite ready to call it a season. We made plans to get out for the day, but a series of delays and errors, including forgetting to fuel up Raj's sled meant we didn't actually leave for our ride until almost 3pm. Luckily the daylight hours last well into the evening at that time of year. Once in the alpine, we found this little tarn just starting to melt out from the winter's snow and ice. Its circular shape caught my eye, and I had dreamt of trying a shot like this after being inspired by some of Lorenz Holder's work. It was Raj's first time trying to skim across water and I had one chance to nail it before we would have tracks ruining it. Luckily everything went perfectly!
The wait is over and we can finally share the first new images of this year's Red Bull Illume Image Quest! Every week, we announce the semi-finalists of a different category, so stay tuned for more mind-blowing images.
