The trail is called 'Roca Verde'. The forest and rocks lined up like something that could only exist in our dreams. The forest was among the lushest in the Whistler valley, the terrain was the perfect pitch for going full send, and I knew it was going to look amazing on camera. The trail was designed to have multiple reveals, smooth arching corners, and jumps off natural terrain while still having the ability to hold plenty of speed. The idea was to mimic the best parts of tree skiing through old growth forest on a pow day full of pillows. We spent a few months building the line while trying to leave the surrounding moss and vegetation as untouched as possible. This in turn made the shoot itself as simple as waiting for the right light at the greenest time of year and riding as fast as humanly possible. What I loved most about the shot was how well it captured the feeling of riding Roca Verde at it's most beautiful time of year.
The wait is over and we can finally share the first new images of this year's Red Bull Illume Image Quest! Every week, we announce the semi-finalists of a different category, so stay tuned for more mind-blowing images.
