This feature, dubbed the ‘Sphere’ is the brainchild of Justin Wyper and Brandon Semenuk. From its initial inception as a CAD drawing, the sphere presented its fair share of challenges from material choice to establishing dimensions so that it would be rideable. Fortunately local welder fabricator, Karson Hudder, found a way to bend the aluminium and created the stand for the sphere to mount on. The next step was sheeting the sphere with plywood, having no prior reference point, it took builders Justin Wyper, Evan Young and Dawson Amann a couple days of trial and error to find a formula that worked.
Seeing the challenges faced in building this feature, made it very rewarding to see Brandon ride it for the first time and even more exciting to be able to photograph it. As Brandon’s shirt blended so well with the color of the plywood, I intentionally wanted there to be some shadow on part of the sphere to position him against in order to create some contrast between rider and feature. The resulting shadow created by Brandon was an added bonus.
