My name is Mikko Laitinen and I am a freelance photographer and educator hailing from the buzzing metropolis of Kuopio, eastern Finland. I specialize in adventure sports and commercial photography.
I didn't really think of myself as a creative person growing up until I picked up my first camera at age 16 and became obsessed with photography. Taking photos, for me, is a way to make sense of and interpret the world around me. I keep chasing that high you get from capturing that one great photo in a wide variety of creative endeavours, ranging from art and multimedia projects to street and travel photography. I also like to tinker and experiment and I'm always looking for new and creative ways to create stunning images.
My biggest passion, though, has always been to document the outdoors. Hiking, skiing and snowkiting around Scandinavia and the world with my family and friends is a huge part of my life. Managing to freeze that energy and sense of place you feel at that moment to something lasting in a 1000th of a second is something indescribable. There's no feeling like it.
