Although I have spent over a decade traveling the world as the senior staff photogra-pher for Oakley Inc., my career behind the lens truly began aged 11 when I moved from Alabama to the Southern California surf Mecca of San Clemente. I quickly de-veloped a passion for surfing and aspired to one-day make a career out of it.
After college, I landed a job at Surfing Magazine. I worked closely with Surfing’s long-time photo editor, the legendary Larry ‘Flame’ Moore. My energy impressed the vet-eran lens-man and Flame took me under his wing. Helped by Flame’s invaluable tu-telage, I worked my way up from ‘scrub intern’, all the way to senior staff photogra-pher.
In 2004, just months before his untimely passing, Flame would bestow one last gift upon me – my dream job. Dino Andino, the Oakley surf manager at the time, had ap-proached Flame in order to find a skilled photographer who could shoot pretty much anything, and Flame didn’t have to think twice about who should be recommended. Just one month after being interviewed, I joined the Oakley team as their staff pho-tographer.
Oakley has given me the opportunity to travel to places like Australia, Indonesia, Ha-waii, Tahiti and Mexico – living the life I had always dreamt about as a kid!
