German cinematographer Sebastian Linda recently released a short skateboarding movie entitled “Revenge of the Beasts”. Shot with a Red EPIC, the clip features many slow-motion shots and is Linda’s interpretation of the world of skateboarding. In the behind-the-scenes video, he explains his vision and the production of the clip.
“The topic was to bring back the fantasy to skateboarding, because I believe that skateboarding is not only a combination of trick after trick but there’s a lot of fascination in there which I wanted to bring out again,” says Linda.
Most of the footage was captured hand-held: “I thought if I had a high-speed camera, I would have to move at high speed. I tried to imagine how it would look if I moved the camera extremely fast in the moment of the trick and then have the trick in slow motion. I always tried to move very, very fast – I jumped with the camera, I skated extremely fast and jumped from the board, I moved the camera from left to right to have smooth motion and interesting camera perspectives.”
“It’s my interpretation of how the world and skateboarding works. So for me, this is skateboarding, this is completely skateboarding… This is my world of skateboarding!” says Linda.
